Alton Road Construction Underway

Extensive construction on Alton Road began this week from Fifth Street to Michigan Avenue and is set to last 28 months. The Florida Department of Transportation told CBS Miami that the construction was necessary to alleviate storm drainage problems on the major road.

So far one lane has been closed in each direction starting at Dade Blvd, but besides installing water pump stations, the busy street will also be repaved, and receive new sidewalk extensions, sinage, barriers, traffic signals and landscaping. Installation of the water pumps will be focused on 5th, 10th and 14th streets causing some street closures in the near future. The Miami Herald recommends Lenox or Meridian Avenue as alternate routes for those heading north and Bay Road and West Avenue for those moving southbound.

The makeover will ultimately cost $32 million dollars and will go on for exactly 854 days. Drivers and Alton store owners have already expressed serious concern for the project, but FDOT members insist that traffic from a flooding emergency would ultimately be much worse.

TRENDS: Annual Real Estate Market Report Is Now Available

We are proud to announce that the 2012 TRENDS Report is now available. TRENDS gives a comprehensive overview of the growing real estate market in Miami and Fort Lauderdale, while highlighting properties in individual neighborhoods.

What to take away from this year’s “Year in Review?” 2012 was the new 2002. Last year was the return to the normal market. This year however, there was a jump in average sale prices in both counties from $446,000 to $620,000 with the biggest growth in the “super” luxury market. Other standout stats include a rise in rental prices by 41% and a drastic increase in the number of U.S. Northeast buyers.
